I visited the Melbourne Zoo in August, and found so many creatures big and small interesting. The color on the birds was impressive, sadly the wire impacted on the image quality somewhat.
Urea (or carbamide) displays some cool birefringence under the microscope, have a peek!
The Sulfur Crested Cockatoo are a common bird around our area, and because of that they present a great opportunity for me to practice my birds in flight. I will spare with information about the birds specifically as I have provided that previously here, however, my images of the birds in flight are shown below….

Nicatonic Acid, or Vitamin B3 looks interesting under the microscope and displays some birefringence.
the second part of the trip involved a visit to Wanaka before stopping overnight at the Lake Hawea Hotel. The actual lake itself (Hawea) is located in the Otago region at an altitude of around 348 metres. The lake itself is named in Maori and is thought to be named after a local tribe, however, at the time no information was available as to the actual meaning of the name.
The Clique Photography Group ran a night photography workshop at Docklands early in August, it was a fantastic night full of fireworks and great tips!
The Heide Museum of Modern Art is a fantastic gallery and garden in Heidelberg, Victoria set on approximately 4 – 5 acres. It consists of an Art Gallery, Cafe and extensive gardens which are fantastic for taking the family to on a lovely day out. My trip was with the family, including two little children…
