S. suricatta or the Meerkats

As mentioned in a previous blog post, the Meerkats are a personal favorite of mine. There is something about them if it is the teamwork, the socialisation, the roles each take that is fairly impressive, and I was disappointed leaving the Zoo without a pack of Meerkats on me. Spheniscidae or the Little Penguins

The penguin’s (Spheniscidae or the Little Penguins) have the whole cuteness thing down pat, and are a regular staple be it at Phillip Island or the Melbourne Zoo. Huddled in a group they seemed hesitant to enter the water at the start, perhaps because of the people around watching but as soon as they jumped in they started swimming like crazy. The Australian Fur Seal (From Melbourne Zoo).

The puppy dog eyes never really worked for the seal, albeit a cute animal it just does not have the same draw that a puppy or kitten has making the same faces. The seal was nonetheless very energetic during a recent visit to the Zoo, putting on a great show for the visitors in the underwater viewing area.
