I live in the South East Suburbs of Melbourne in a town called Officer, Victoria, Australia. As part of our state governments commitment to renewable energy they have been running a program to assist house-owners to install rooftop solar within their homes.
We participated in this rebate offer recently, and had a 5kW system installed on our roof. The system is fairly basis and consists of around 20 or so panels installed on the North and West roof face (we live in a two story house with a fairly small roof). These panels are then connected into a ZeverSolar Inverter which uploads to the cloud, and has a web accessible page.
Because of how the system is set up, we essentially use any Solar generated, then what is remaining is fed back into the grid (I believe this is a fairly typical system). We built the house from new (and moved in around December 2018), whilst the Solar system was installed and activated around late November 2019.
Currently, I have a rock64 (sort of like a raspberry pi) which polls the Inverter interface every five (5) minutes to read the data and upload it to PVOutput. The script can be found here and was created by people far smarter than myself. In the longer term I would like to get a power meter to read what is being exported to the grid, as well as what is being used by each circuit in my house.
Until then, whilst the solar is being uploaded every five (5) minutes, this just represents the amount of power that the Solar is generating. Occasionally I log into the MyHomeEnergy portal to download consumption and generation data (as measured by the grid meter) and manually upload this to the PVOutput portal.
I have embedded a near real-time view of the system below just with some information, once I work out how to embed more I will update this page and put that in as well.
An overview of the latest 24 hour power generation.
This provides an overview of the systems power generation.
