Under the Microscope: Silica

This episode of “Cool Stuff Under the Microscope” is focused on Silica Gel, which is a material used in air sampling to absorb chemicals which are later desorbed for analysis by specific analytical techniques. A piece of Silica was placed on a Microscope slide and analysed under the Radical microscope (More info here) with a Nikon D5300 Digital Camera being used to image the silica gel. Anthochaera chrysoptera or the Little Wattlebird

The Little Wattlebird, also known as the Anthochaera chrysopthera is a medium to large honeyeater found in various regions of eastern Australia (from the Meliphagidae family). This specific bird was found in Upper Beaconsfield flying in and out of the flora. Pakenham Carols

The Pakenham Carols were held at the Toomuc reserve on December 12th, 2015. The carols were held by the Cardinia council and consisted of various activities including of course carols before being finished with fireworks. I wanted to try my luck at photographing the fireworks, and tried a longer exposure (> 1 second), higher ISO (e.g. 800) and an aperture of around f8.
