Today, I visited Lakeside Pakenham to take some photos of the wildlife at the Lake given it had been quite a period of time since I had taken any of these sort of photos and was starting to get the shakes…. Since the weather was nice it was a great opportunity to get some photos, although the sun did result in harsh light, but that in my view was offset by the fact that the birds came so close I could hear them breathe.

Lakeside Pakenham is located in Pakenham, in the South East Suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is a fairly large development with a lake in the middle, and a walking track around the lake, the lake is almost always filled with birds, most commonly being the swamphen, swans and ducks. These photos were taken off the kayak launching ramp, as usual with my Nikon D5300, and edited in Adobe Lightroom.

The lenses were low focal length lenses since the Swan's came so close (I actually used a different lens at the start, but they came so close it would not auto-focus on them).

I would recommend a visit to lakeside to see the birds, since they are fed so often they are fairly tame and always appreciate the odd bit of bread being thrown :).
